President Donald Trump on Friday said Rudy Giuliani will “get his facts straight” after the former New York City mayor said this week that the president's personal attorney was reimbursed the $130,000 he paid to adult film actress Stormy Daniels as part of a hush agreement.
“Rudy is a great guy but he just started a day ago,” the president said while addressing reporters outside the White House. “But he really has his heart into it. He’s working hard. He’s learning the subject matter.”
Trump later added: “He'll get his facts straight."
The remarks come after Giuliani told Fox News on Wednesday that the president repaid his longtime personal attorney Michael Cohen $130,000 that he personally paid to Daniels, who claims she was paid to keep quiet about an alleged sexual encounter she had with the president in 2006.
Speaking later to reporters on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews, the president appeared to allude to Giuliani'’s remarks earlier this week.
"When he made certain statements, he just started yesterday,” Trump said.
Trump has previously told reporters he did not know of the payment and did not know where Cohen got the money from.
On Thursday, the president tweeted that Cohen “received a monthly retainer, not from the campaign and having nothing to do with the campaign, from which he entered into, through reimbursement, a private contract between two parties, known as a non-disclosure agreement.”
