Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is on deck to testify next week before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, panel leaders announced Wednesday.
Zuckerberg's testimony will come in a hearing slated for at 10 a.m. on April 11. Facebook has been negotiating over the past week with multiple congressional panels that have summoned Zuckerberg to testify. The social media giant is under considerable scrutiny amid revelations about Trump-linked data firm Cambridge Analytica secretly accessing and using some 50 million Facebook users’ data.
This is the first confirmation of Zuckerberg appearing on Capitol Hill.
“This hearing will be an important opportunity to shed light on critical consumer data privacy issues and help all Americans better understand what happens to their personal information online,” Energy and Commerce Chairman Greg Walden and ranking member Frank Pallone said in a joint statement. “We appreciate Mr. Zuckerberg’s willingness to testify before the committee, and we look forward to him answering our questions on April 11th.”
