On Friday evening, Trump hosted a Republican donor reception in the Mar-a-Lago ballroom at which 250 GOP donors were present.
At one point, Trump opted to bring Rudy Giuliani onto the stage to address the crowd. The former mayor of New York and informal Trump cybersecurity adviser reminisced about Trump’s wedding to Melania in 2005, held in the same venue, for which he was present.
“Hillary was also here,” he said, “and she actually fit through the door.”
Per Axios, “the crowd gasped. I’m told Giuliani’s wife gave him a ‘most foul look.’ Trump later told the audience: ‘I’m just glad I didn’t say it.'”
When something is too vile for even Trump to say, perhaps consider shelving the comment.
Giuliani’s desperate attempt at a joke at Hillary’s weight might have been retribution for the 2016 Al Smith dinner, at which she ruthlessly skewered him to the crowd’s delight.
Rudy, for his part, seemed less than pleased with Clinton’s remarks.
Perhaps Rudy should stick to his enraged speeches at the RNC, and leave comedy to those with, well, a sense of humor—or, at the very least, some relevance.
