If President Trump thought his Justice Department troubles were over with his abrupt and petty firing of Deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe, he was very much mistaken.
Reuters is reporting that multiple witnesses have told Special Counsel Mueller that Attorney General Jeff Sessions lied under oath during his confirmation hearings about whether or not he opposed the Trump team’s efforts to get in contact with Russians.
During his confirmation hearings, Sessions testified that he had “pushed back” against indicted staffer George Papadopolous’ clumsy attempts to set up a meeting between members of the Trump team and Russian agents during a March 31, 2016 foreign policy campaign meeting – but three witnesses have come forward to tell a very different story.
The three all independently allege that Jeff Sessions did not “push back” as he said he did under oath; instead, all of them “said Sessions had expressed no objections to Papadopoulos’ idea.”
While that may not seem like a big deal, the difference could play a huge role in Mueller’s efforts to charge Sessions with perjury and put a swift end to Sessions’ efforts to enact his agenda of white supremacy through the Justice Department.
Sessions was previously forced to recuse himself from the Trump-Russia investigation for failing to disclose his secret meetings with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, a move which earned him the president’s eternal ire.
Now it looks like his lying efforts to aid and abet Trump’s treason – not to mention covering his own ass – are about to blow up in his face.
Trump might very well have some company in his cell when this is all said and done.
