Florida shooting survivors’ Washington D.C. rally just got bumped for a ridiculous reason

- Maret 01, 2018

In the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School massacre on February 14th, the survivors from Parkland, Florida organized the massive pro-gun control March for Our Lives rally to take place in Washington, D.C. on March 24th.

The National Park Service has revealed that, per a “scheduling conflict,” the rally of about 500,000 people will be moved off D.C.’s National Mall so that a local “talent show” can occupy the space.

Reportedly, a “student group at a local educational institution” will be filming for a “student project.” Whereas the rally is expected to draw half a million attendees with “student speakers, musical performers, guest speakers and video tributes” with “14 Jumbotrons, 2,000 chairs and 2,000 portable restrooms,” the new event calls for “two tables, two bikes, and jump ropes.”

The rally will still occur, although not at the desired location. Instead, it will happen on Pennsylvania Avenue between Third and 12th streets NW. There is also a planned protest in front of the White House.

The event will draw major star power, including Oprah and George and Amal Clooney, and received funding pledges from Steven Spielberg and Jeffrey Katzenberg.

This is not the first time that a planned event critical of the Trump administration or his party has had logistical problems. The Women’s March on January 21, immediately following Trump’s inauguration, was originally supposed to take place at the Lincoln Memorial but, because of a permitting issue, was relegated to an alternate location. The march ultimately drew between 440,000 and 500,000 people, roughly three times as many as attended Trump’s inauguration.

Whether being bumped was inadvertent or not, the attendees will march and their voices will be heard. Republicans in Washington, D.C. are on notice.
