Andrew McCabe just got sweet revenge on Trump with a bombshell revelation

- Maret 17, 2018

Andrew McCabe, the Deputy FBI Director who was fired yesterday just 26 hours before he was set to retire and collect his pension, may still create problems for President Trump in the multiple investigations of his campaign, according to reporting from the Associated Press this morning.

McCabe, who was officially terminated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions last night after the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General and the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility concluded that he lied about his role in the unauthorized disclosure of details of the Hillary Clinton email investigation to the press, apparently took a cue from his former supervisor James Comey and kept contemporaneous personal memos about all of his meetings with President Trump.

The AP learned about McCabe’s memos from an anonymous source with direct knowledge of them who was not authorized to discuss the memos or their contents, but if they are anything like the memos kept by Comey, they should include detailed notes of every interaction that the former FBI Deputy Director had with Trump.

It was Comey’s memos that revealed to the world Trump’s attempts to interfere with the FBI’s investigation of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn and his lies about his interactions with Russian agents. Comey’s firing and the information in his memos eventually led to the appointment of Robert Mueller as Special Counsel to take over the investigation.

While it’s not publicly known whether the information in McCabe’s memos has been seen yet by the Special Counsel’s office, their very existence poses yet another threat to Trump’s defense against accusations of obstruction of justice in his fight against the investigation into collusion between his campaign and Russia.

If Mueller’s team hasn’t seen the memos yet, they are certain to find McCabe to be quite the cooperative witness, given his vindictive dismissal by the administration after 21 years as a civil servant. Of course, there’s a good chance that McCabe has already told the Special Counsel everything contained in the memos, and his firing could be motivated by retaliation against his whistleblowing.

Either way, it appears that McCabe was equally dubious as Comey of the president’s ability or willingness to recall details of their meetings with any sort of veracity, so he took the precaution to document each encounter with Trump immediately after it occurred to ensure that an accurate record of their interactions would exist.

Given that Trump seems to be congenitally unable to tell the truth about anything, it is good to know that at least McCabe has written evidence to back up any claims he may make to the Special Counsel about the President’s words and intent in his dealings with a senior FBI official.

With the exact contents of McCabe’s memos still undisclosed, the public will most likely have to wait until the thrilling conclusion of Mueller’s investigation to find out the details, unless, of course, the president is successful in his attempts to undermine Mueller’s probe and end it before it is successfully concluded.

With Trump practically chanting “no collusion” as a mantra and his personal attorneys calling for the investigation to shut down, that’s a danger that we will all have to keep vigilant to prevent.
