FOX News is never afraid to skirt the controversial, but today’s interview with Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) to discuss the heinous series of serial bombings which shook Austin, Texas over the past few weeks crossed the line.
Fox host Bill Hemmer opened the segment in question with a surprising opinion of bombing suspect Mark Anthony Conditt when he called him a case of “home-grown terror,” a surprising take for FOX considering Conditt’s white skin.
However, Rep. McCaul kept FOX true to their message when he disputed that assertion and claimed that police said they had found nothing in Conditt’s video confession that suggested a political move. Conditt had recorded the confession on his phone prior to taking his own life with one of his home-made bombs which cops recovered after his suicide.
“I think it’s clear from the confession that it’s not terror-related, although it did terrorize the city of Austin for the last month,” he wheezed. “I think it was a disturbed young man, a mentally ill-type person.” Yes, Mr. McCaul, because that is what makes a terrorist.
Austin police Chief Brian Manley said of the video, “I know everybody is interested in a motive and understanding why… and we’re never going to be able to put a (rationale) behind these acts.”
For the record, while his self-taped confession did not indicate a political motive, it also offered no other explanation to the motive behind the bombing spree. There was, however, a blog penned by Conditt in 2012 detailing his conservative views and political leanings.
The double standard here is outrageous. If the bomber had been a Muslim or a black person, you’d better believe there would be wall-to-wall FOX coverage about the dangers of terrorism in America – but when it’s just another disgruntled white male, there’s nothing to see here.
If you can stomach it, watch the Republican lawmaker go to bat for ANOTHER white mass-murderer:
