Intelligence official: People with interim security clearance should have limited access to information

- Februari 13, 2018

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said Tuesday that people with temporary security clearance should have only limited access to sensitive, classified information.

Coats did not mention any individuals, but the White House has come under scrutiny after it became public that former staff secretary Rob Porter and various other officials had access to sensitive information while operating with only interim clearances. Porter resigned last week over allegations that he abused two ex-wives.

“Sometimes it is necessary to have some type of preliminary clearance in order to fill a slot, but….access has to be limited in terms of the kinds of information they can be in a position to receive or not receive,” Coats said.
