Al Franken just went viral with his first anti-Trump tweet since leaving the Senate

- Januari 17, 2018

Today, Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) took to the Senate floor to deliver an impassioned speech drawing a comparison between his own party’s president and former Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin.

The speech was driven by Trump’s virulent disdain for the press, whom he claims have undergone a “sustained attack” by the president.

Ex-Senator Al Franken (D-MN) took to Twitter to encourage his former colleague as he speaks out against Trump’s authoritarian tendencies.

Al Franken’s departure from the Senate was controversial, and came at the dismay of his colleagues and many Democrats. The Minnesota Senator was accused of sexual misconduct during his time as a writer for Saturday Night Live. Of course, the principal issue with his resignation is that Trump, who has been accused of not only worse actions, but on a far greater scale, is still in office.

Trump, for his part, has been accused of sexual harassment or misconduct by 19 women. He has neither confessed to these crimes nor taken any degree of responsibility for them. Even in the face of damning evidence – such as the Access Hollywood tapes – the President has refused to address the issue.

He even went so far as to suggest to a sitting Senator, as well as an adviser, that his incriminating Access Hollywood tape – in which he admitted to sexual assault – is inauthentic.

Trump himself confirmed the infamous tape’s legitimacy on October 12, 2016, a fact that seemed to escape the President as he issued perhaps his most easily debunked denial.

“This was locker-room talk,” Trump said during a debate with his Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton. “Certainly I’m not proud of it. I apologize to my family, I apologize to the American people.”

Trump may pretend that he’s done nothing wrong, but the American people are demanding justice and they will get it the one way they know how– at the ballot box.
